TAAR1 is a 339 amino acid novel membrane protein belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor family and is activated by a broad range of monoamines and amphetamine-related psychostimulants (biogenic amines). It has two N-glycosylation sites at its N terminus and several potential protein kinase sites at its C terminus, including two serines and a single disulfide bridge. It shows lower cAMP accumulation in response to octopamine, tryptamine, dopamine and unresponsive to the classical biogenic amines norepinephrine, serotonin, and histamine.
