| Description | Purity >97% by HPLC. Tetrapeptide that supports fibroblast attachment and inhibits fibronectin binding to platelets. The characteristic amino acid sequence, Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD), which was originally found within the central cell-binding domain of fibronectin, is present in a number of extracellular matrix proteins, binds some integrins such as 3-Beta1 (VLA-3), 5-Beta1 (VLA-5), v-Beta3 (GPIIb/IIIa) and vitronectin receptor (VN-R) on the cell surface, and affects tumour cell functions including adhesion, invasion and migration. Furthermore, RGD-containing peptides have been reported to inhibit tumour metastasis, tumour-induced angiogenesis and tumour-elicited platelet aggregation. |
