| Description | Purity >97%. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium and has central roles in bone formation and maintenance, hypertension, cancer and immunity. Vitamin D3 is obtained from dietary sources, such as fish, or through the conversion of 7-dehydrocholesterol by ultraviolet light. Vitamin D3 is subsequently metabolized to 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 and the active form 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 by cytochrome P450 isoforms in the liver. 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 binds and activates the vitamin D receptor, which dimerizes with retinoid X receptor isoforms to alter gene expression. |
