| Description | Purity >98%. Histamine H2 receptors mediate gastric acid secretion by coupling to GAlphas proteins and increasing cAMP formation. Cimetidine is an H2 receptor antagonist (Ki = 0.6 µM) that competitively inhibits the binding of histamine to H2 receptors, thereby reducing both intracellular cAMP concentrations and acid secretion by parietal cells. Inverse agonist activity of cimetidine has been described to account for its ability to upregulate histamine H2 receptors in CHO cells. |
